Session Guidelines

Therapy is a collaborative process grounded in safety, trust, and mutual respect. These guidelines outline the structure and boundaries of our work together and are intended to help create a safe and effective therapeutic frame.

1. Contact and Communication

You may contact me for scheduling or logistical questions via email or my professional mobile number (shared on my website). I typically respond within 24 hours on working days, excluding weekends, holidays, and scheduled time off.

Please note that therapy-related discussions (questions, reflections, or processing) are held within session time only.

2. Sessions

First Session (90 minutes): This extended conversation helps explore your present concerns and context. It also gives space to understand my therapeutic approach and clarify any initial questions.

Ongoing Sessions (60 minutes): Most individual sessions are 60 minutes.
Frequency: This is mutually discussed and depends on your needs, capacity, and goals. While some people seek short-term therapy for specific issues, others engage in long-term self-work and integration.

3. Between Sessions

As part of the process, I offer homework or self-work practices. These may include body-based exercises, journaling prompts, reflection tasks, or mindfulness work, depending on the stage of therapy.

These practices are not mandatory but are often deeply supportive. They allow the work to integrate into daily life and deepen your relationship with your inner experience.

4. Boundaries and Availability

I do not engage in therapeutic work over text, phone, or email. Outside of scheduling needs, all therapeutic reflections are held within the session.

If something important arises, please make note of it and bring it to our next meeting.

5. Timeliness and Cancellations

Sessions begin and end on time. If you arrive late, the session will still conclude at the scheduled time.

Cancellations with less than 48 hours’ notice are chargeable in full, unless due to a medical or personal emergency.

If I need to reschedule, I will notify you at the earliest possible time.

6. Emergencies and Crisis Support

I am not available for crisis or emergency intervention between sessions.
If you are in immediate danger or distress, please contact emergency medical or mental health services in your location.

If you’re based in India: you may contact helplines such as iCall (9152987821) or Jeevan Aastha (1800 233 3330).

If outside India: please keep local helpline or hospital emergency contact information accessible.

7. Scope of Practice and Non-Substitution of Medical Care

Therapy is not a replacement for medical or psychiatric diagnosis and treatment.

Physical and psychological symptoms often interact, and I encourage you to seek parallel medical or psychiatric care if needed.

If you are under the care of a physician or psychiatrist, or on prescribed medication, please let me know so that we can work in a coordinated way.
I may refer you for a medical opinion if I believe it’s necessary for your well-being.

8. Self-Harm and Suicide

If you have thoughts of self-harm or suicide, or have acted on such thoughts, I request that you let me know at the earliest.

This ensures we can create a safety plan and assess the level of care needed.

9. Confidentiality

I maintain strict confidentiality. Legal exceptions (such as risk to life or abuse disclosures) are outlined in the therapy agreement.

You are free to share about your experience of therapy. However, I request that you refrain from sharing my personal or professional information (unless already public) on social media or public forums, to protect the professional boundary.

10. Social Boundaries and Gifts

To protect the therapeutic frame, I do not engage in social invitations or interactions outside sessions.

In line with ethical guidelines, I do not give or receive personal gifts from clients.

11. Ending Therapy

You may choose to end therapy at any point. Ideally, this is discussed in session so that we can plan for appropriate closure.

Ending therapy via message is discouraged, especially if you are experiencing emotional overwhelm, doubt, or resistance. These moments often precede meaningful breakthroughs and deserve therapeutic support.

If I believe your needs are better served by another practitioner, I will let you know and support a referral.

12. Disclosures and Safety (at Intake)

In the interest of safety, I request that you disclose the following during intake:

  • That you are a legal adult in your country of residence
  • Any history or current risk of self-harm or suicidal ideation
  • Any serious medical or psychiatric diagnoses
  • Any current or recent therapy, intensive retreat, or rehabilitation
  • Any legal proceedings or criminal background (if relevant)
  • A list of current medications (psychiatric or medical)
  • Two emergency contacts (name, phone, email, relationship)

I hope these guidelines offer clarity and help us begin this work with transparency and mutual respect.

Please feel free to bring any questions to our initial session.
